ACA Repeal: 272,000 Texans’ Access to Critical Behavioral Health Services Care Will Be Ripped Away

Austin, TX --  More than 4 million Americans with serious mental illness or a substance use disorder would lose some or all of their insurance coverage when Republicans repeal the Affordable Care Act (ACA).

New Harvard Medical School and New York University data analysis shows that repealing the ACA would have tragic consequences for millions of Americans. [Harvard Medical School, February 2017]

In the Lone Star State, 2.55 million Texans would lose health coverage, including 272,069 Texans suffering from mental illness or substance use disorder who will lose critical mental health services made available by the ACA.

Texas Democratic Party Chair Gilberto Hinojosa issued the following statement:

“Texans will die because Republicans are rushing to score political points with their base.

“When Republicans repeal the Affordable Care Act, they will be ripping away insurance coverage from hard working Texas families and critical mental health services from some of the most vulnerable among us.

“Minority President Donald Trump is hell bent on repeal, but the majority of Americans are saying hell no.
